The Top
10 Things That Turn Affiliates Off
#
8 – No Tools for Affiliates to Use
At any
given
moment affiliates are trolling the Internet looking for banner ads,
skyscraper ads, small button ads and more to place on their sites and
blogs, as well as on other people’s sites and in their forum
signatures, and if they don’t find what they’re looking for on one
site, they move on to another.
Don’t let them pass you by!
Give them what they want!
Create full banners, small banners, long ads, small ads – anything your
affiliates could want and put them on your affiliate page for them to
use.
Standard Sizes
Most sites that allow you to place ads on them have strict size limits
so be sure to create your ads in the standard sizes.
Here’s a really good article that not only gives you all
the standard ad sizes, but it also tells which sizes perform the best
and where to place them too.

|
TIP:
Do you think you’d make more money if your affiliates knew where to
place your ads and which sizes performed better?
Include a link to that article on your affiliate page so you can
help them help you make more money.

You don’t have to make an ad in every size listed in
that article – just create at least one ad in each of the popular sizes:

Design Tip:
Look at these two banners:
|

|
|

|
You
probably only glanced at the top one but spent much more time looking
at the bottom one, right? That's because the human
eye moves from left to right.
Use this fact to your advantage and design eye-catching ads that'll
keep people glued to them!
|
Most people say that flashing animated ads are
annoying, but they do
grab your attention, and that’s the whole idea. Plus, they’re the
best way to fit more words in a small space so you can get your message
acrossed. To create your own animated ads, you’ll need a GIF
animator. Click here for more info on GIF
Animators - how to choose one, how to use one, etc.
Since it’s impossible to know which colors would work best on other
people’s sites, savvy sellers offer ads in different colors for their
affiliates to pick from. Check out all the different colors and
sizes Copyscape offers.
While you don’t have to go that crazy, do offer your affiliates some
options (for example, some ads that'll look good on a light background
and some that'll look good on a dark background).
Need ideas for your ads?
Remember: “What’s in it for me?” Design your ads FOR your target
customer – what they want, what they’ll get from your product – and you
can’t go wrong.
Just don’t create ads that would offend most visitors, like The Rich Jerk did. The idea is to
make people click on the ad, not leave the site in a huff.
Text banners work too!
Although they’re not as eye catching as colorful, graphic ads, the
right words can be just as effective:
[Notice that the whole box is an image and a
clickable link]
For those of you who were smart and took my advice and invested in your
success with the graphics design tutorial
and the copywriting ebook,
creating great ads for your site will be a piece of cake!

TIP:
Watch the file size of each of your ads. They need to load fast!
Always aim for as small as possible.

What other tools do affiliates want?
Some affiliates write product reviews and need an image of your
product. Give them a large image and a small image to
pick from.
To help them write better reviews and articles, provide any details
you can about your product:
|

|
Number of pages,
|
|

|
Number of hours of videos,
|
|

|
Won X, Y and Z awards,
|
|

|
Was recently updated (include the
date, i.e. Aug 2008), etc.
|

|
|
Face
it. Not all of your affiliates will buy your product but they can
pre-sell it better when they know what they’re talking about.
Offer affiliates a free copy of your ebook. Even if each
affiliate only
brings you ten sales, that’s worth it! And if some bring you 100
sales, or 1000, that free copy was a smart investment.
If you sell a software product, offer them a 30-day trial.
If you have a members-only site, offer them a free one-month membership.
The more they know about your product or service, the better they can
help bring you business.
|
|

|
Some
affiliates
use Pay-per-click ads (PPC) to bring you potential customers so give
them a list of your keywords so they can better target their
ads.
Many sellers provide PPC ads for affiliates to use on their affiliate
pages so if you’ve got a knack for writing them, do it.

|
|
Don't forget!
Some
affiliates are newbies and might not know the first thing about sending
traffic to a website so explain things to them. Give them ideas.
|
|

|
Some
affiliates have massive lists with tens of thousands of subscribers and
send out email campaigns to draw visitors to a site. Think of
lots of juicy details about your product you can share with your
affiliates to help them compose irresistible messages to send out.
Check out all the tools these sellers have on their affiliate pages:
One
great marketing tool that affiliates don’t take advantage of is interviews.
The right questions with great answers can get to the
heart of what potential customers want to know. Plus it shows
there’s a real person behind the product [those S.C. Johnson (Windex,
Scrubbing Bubbles, etc.) commercials come to mind].
Are you willing to be interviewed? Say so! Put this on your
affiliate page and be sure to include your email address or a contact
form so they can contact you.
