Tracking
Your Site's Visitors
Tracking
your site’s visitors is a great way to know what’s working on
your site and what’s not. Good tracking (or stats) programs will
tell you:
|

|
Where the visitor came from (the
referrer), |
|

|
What pages they visited, |
|

|
How long they stayed on each page,
|
|

|
Where they went when they left
your site, |
|

|
And most importantly, if they used
a search engine to find you, which
keywords they used.
|
These
programs will give you tons of other interesting information as
well, but the above items are the ones you really want to know.
By knowing what is working on your site and what isn’t, you can make
your site much more effective.
Adding tracking to your site is really easy. It usually just
involves copying some code off your tracking company’s site and
inserting it where they tell you to on the pages of your site you want
to track.
And tracking is affordable. Some are free, some cost around $16
(US) a month.
I like Google's free service, Google Analytics.
If you want to see what else is out there, here's a big list of tracking/stats programs on Google.
Find the one that will work best for you.

on things on the Checklist. If you landed here from somewhere
else, you may want to start at the beginning
